Social business is in its infancy. Organizations are now discovering that being a social business is so much more than engaging in social media marketing to becoming more operationally focused. Optimized social business processes affords organizations the ability to co-create with customers in ways that can impact core operations – from increasing customer loyalty, new product development, delivering integrated customer service and accelerating R&D efforts to truly reflect the needs articulated by the audience. In order to achieve an integrated strategy, organizations can benefit from taking a federated approach to leveraging the social experience.

Research and experience has demonstrated that the most significant value drivers – from cost reductions to innovation revenue – are often found through a multi-disciplinary approach. Currently, social strategy as we know it is being led by Marketing but, not dissimilar to the early days of the World Wide Web, IT, Marketing and Operations need to play a starring role in the strategy development of social business. Consequently, technology leadership has an opportunity to help shape the vision and impact of the future of social.

The mission of this session is to explore the impact of social business on core operations in order to understand the now and prepare for the future. Through this session, participants can gain exposure to the current state of social business activities and develop a shared understanding/benchmark of the current state of social business and surface key areas for further inquiry.

Approach: at the kickoff session of the group, we will share recent research from the Leader Networks Social Business Benchmark study that examines (in aggregate) the following:

how organizations leverage social tools, technologies and processes

organizations’ strategic intent, operational alignment, staffing, policy, and governance structures

organizations’ use of social tools internally and externally

organizations’ strategic social media intentions

organizations’ readiness to use social tools and technologies

organizations’ social media marketing strategy and ability to leverage and operate as a social business

Following a review of current trends and best practices in social business, this session will offer a facilitated group discussion about the social business strategic agenda for 2013 and the success metrics to execute a strategic framework.

Hot Tech Trends: Cloud...Cybersecurity...Big Data...Mobility

Product innovations from vendors of new technologies and business software reflect the emerging needs of the industry. The business and technology leaders of financial service firms try to make use of what’s new and hot, as this gives them the edge and makes it difficult for their competitors to keep up. Their service innovations make full use of the product innovations fueled by vendors. What’s new in 2013? Are all new technologies leveraging what’s already hot, like Cloud, Big Data, Social Business and Mobility, for which we need to tune our enabling portfolios? Or are they making us look at something new and bleeding edge? This seminar provides a forum for information exchange between the industry leaders, research analysts and vendors who take advantage of emerging enablers.

Financial institutions increasingly need to make critical business decisions quickly and accurately. To achieve their goals they must have rapid access to all the information they may need, the ability to transform vast amounts of data into actionable business intelligence, and they need to do all this without fear of the data being compromised. As such, the strategic integration of big data resources, cloud technology and robust information security is absolutely essential for leading-edge financial institutions to maintain their competitive edge. This seminar clearly demonstrates that this level of integration is available now, and financial IT executives should consider ways to integrate these technologies into their overall strategic planning.

Cybersecurity-Mitigate Issues with Trust and Pervasive Information Access

How do we prepare for the next Big Breach?

Operating in a connected world 24x7 has become the norm, dealing with attacks on the company’s IT assets and data are the new constants. Where are the attacks coming from? What are the tiered security levels to handle these attacks? What needs to be done to compare and contrast approaches to protect IT assets using a security architecture which goes beyond traditional perimeter security and data encryption? What options exist for enterprise certificate management? How can the framework be hardened with advanced cryptography, forensics, penetration testing, entitlement management and network design? How do we quantify the risk for each function, and the overall risk metrics? As Cybersecurity is an all-encompassing discipline that has gained importance year-over-year, the products available have grown and the lessons learned provide a means for tooling to prevent attacks. WSTA offers this full-length seminar on Cybersecurity in 2013 because of its prominence as a key industry topic where industry collaboration is required.

Big Data-Setting up the Foundations for New Analytics EnginesBig Data has arrived; is RDBMS dead?

Cloud and NoSQL have enabled analytic engines to access information from structured, semi-structured and unstructured sources simultaneously. The new challenge is to harness Big Data to answer real-time use cases. How do we cut through business unit silos to take data use to unprecedented heights? For financial service companies, how do we leverage big data to retain customers using a comprehensive customer profile, or strike an algorithmic trade, or manage risk in real time? How do we compare standalone databases and their underlying infrastructures vs. vertical database appliances? At what price-performance points do we make the transition to the new data architectures? This WSTA seminar will give us insights on comparing major Big Data solutions against challenging use cases - frequently-written data vs. read-mostly data, big data analytics, binary and unstructured data management and high availability data environments.

Key sub-topics:

· Analytics

· Data transformation tools

· Master Data Management (MDM)

· Enterprise intelligence and visualization

· In-memory computing

· Semantic integration - adding sentiment from social networks, combining operational and informational assets of high fidelity

· Client data-masking/obfuscation techniques

· Impact of ubiquitous access of Big Data on the network

Cloud Computing-Shift from Proprietary Business ModelsAligning with Commodity Offerings and creating a new IP

The maturity of the cloud has changed our thinking processes on how to best manage our IT portfolio and how to create new products and services. What’s next, new and disruptive in this space? Does the consumer experience with cloud help or hurt the service model? Is security better or worse than before? Are we at a point when entire financial services back office functions can be available in the cloud? How much can Wall Street rely on commodity clouds? What are the 2013 workloads that are trending in the cloud? What are the risk-adjusted ROI for the workloads? How do we baseline and contrast various vendor pricing schemes for various cloud offerings? Should we have multiple service models for our private clouds? This WSTA seminar will provide transparency to these compelling questions of 2013.

Key sub-topics:

· Maturity of cloud strategies (e.g. IaaS, PaaS, aPaaS, dbPaaS)

· Understanding cloud vendor offerings

· Securing cloud implementations

· Business continuity

· New TCO evaluation equations

· Network considerations for public, hybrid and private cloud adoption

· Preparing your internal shop for the challenges of managing a cloud environment

· Business value of cloud solutions: overcoming financial services industry hurdles
