The Panel Discussion will discuss insights & practical tips for financial firms. Read on for a full description.
Seminar | AI, machine learning, and automation are transforming virtually every business process within financial services firms. But how should financial firms approach implementing these new capabilities? Which areas are ripest for transformation, and which tools are best-in-breed for enabling that transformation? And what are the most compelling business cases?
This seminar addresses the critical tools and technologies needed to launch and grow AI, machine learning, and robotics process automation (RPA) initiatives. It covers best practices for designing, implementing and operating these tools, and provides operational metrics to validate your organization’s performance against those who are best-in-breed.
Participants will walk away with enhanced insight into how to apply AI, machine learning, and robotic process automation to their enterprise organizations. They’ll receive actionable recommendations, metrics, and best practices for rolling out and deploying these new technologies. And they’ll gain an understanding of how to craft compelling business cases, and articulate for business leaders what kind of return on investment to expect.
Panel Discussion | You’ve launched an AI, ML, or RPA initiative (or initiatives.) You’re seeing results. But are your operations and business benefits in line with those of best-in-breed financial firms?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been on the horizon since 1940, when Czech writer Karel Čapek published R.U.R. and coined the term “robot”.
But now it’s really here. AI is emerging as the technology “magic” behind digital transformation, customer engagement, and other critical business goals.
But when should financial organizations deploy it, and what’s the best strategy to make it work? This session includes a capability maturity model for AI, so you can map your company’s readiness to implement it.
It provides concrete insight and guidance for implementing AI in your organization, and highlights areas where AI is – and isn’t — effective.
And it helps with the critical decisions of implementing AI: Which use cases to start with? Deploy a turnkey solution or DIY? Use consultants? Rely on cloud services? What about training?
Wherever you are in the AI maturity model, you’ll pick up tips and pointers for moving forward.

Say “search” and many people think Google and ten blue links. Say “AI” and many people roll their eyes and wonder what’s hype and what’s real. The reality is a modern search engine combined with AI techniques like machine learning, natural language processing and statistical analysis can unlock tremendous value across an organization well beyond ten blue links or log processing. This use case driven talk will highlight three examples across financial services where search and AI helped transform revenue, customer service and employee insights by asking the question: what’s my next best action?
10:55AM-11:20AM Presentation: “Future-Forward Business Apps with AI, RPA & DPA”
BioRichard Theodore, Chief Product Evangelist, K2
Richard Theodore has been a strategic advisor for over fifteen years to organizations aiming to achieve digital transformation using emerging technologies such as intelligent process automation, cloud migration, robotic process automation, cognitive services, and more. His expertise lies in building out product demonstrations and solution proof of concepts across a variety of areas: DPA, CRM, ERP, ECM, RPA, BI, SaaS, IaaS, and more.
As organizations around the world embrace digital transformation, they’re turning to two crucial technologies to help accelerate their journey there. While robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) get the most credit for transforming the way companies do business today, there’s another layer to consider: how Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Digital Process Automation (DPA) are merging. Join us in this session to learn how RPA empowers robots to take on repetitive tasks and frees up humans to do higher value work, how DPA provides a platform to build business applications that address deep, complex needs and scale, and how these two technologies combined can streamline and automate processes empowered with AI and robots.
11:20AM-11:45AM Presentation: “IO for GPU-Accelerated AI/ML”
BioAndy Watson, CTO, WekaIO
Andy Watson has focused on the customer experience of high-performance file storage since 1991. At Auspex Systems he worked closely with early adopters of those first purpose-built NFS file servers. Then at NetApp from 1995 (becoming the company’s second CTO in 1998), Andy led cross-functional teams to integrate multiprotocol file server appliances into increasingly complex environments as diverse as Oracle dbms and Rocketmail (the precursor to all webmail), or spanning the spectrum from SAP production environments to seismic analysis applications for the energy sector. Most recently as CTO at Minio, with its cloud-native open source object storage software, Andy has confronted cloud-vs-on-premises decisions and the challenges of digital transformation.
As WekaIO’s CTO, Andy will continue to actively engage with customers and partners. It’s the best way to track emerging trends and to bring actionable feedback to Engineering and Product Management.
Andy has a Bachelor’s degree (majoring in Physics) from Bard College.
AI/ML has fueled innovation across a broad range of applications including autonomous vehicles, speech recognition, genomics, manufacturing, fraud detection & predictive analytics. Those last two — fraud detection & predictive analytics — continue to impact the FinTech world. Current GPU advancements allow data scientists to build increasingly complex models at multi-petabyte scale. GPU-accelerated servers (and dedicated GPU computation engines such as the NVIDIA DGX platform) are stressing datacenter infrastructure, requiring a new approach to data access to avoid GPU “IO Starvation”.
Teams of researchers and data scientists should be freed to focus on their work and not waste time wrestling with IO bottlenecks. This 20-minute tech-talk will use real world examples to illustrate these emerging data infrastructure challenges and offer solutions.
